Entre Rio et Paraty, il faut compter 4 heures de voiture. Nous avons fait un stop à Angra dos Reis… deux nuits, pas assez pour visiter Ilha Grande. Peu de logements sur place et le temps nous manquait… nous sommes restés à Angra dos Reis. Excursion en bateau… magnifique, mais beaucoup trop touristique pour nous. Un hôtel dans la jungle, la mer d'huile devant… étrange sentiment d'abandon et de bien-être.
Puis, Paraty… le paradis.
Des rues de gros pavés sans voitures, des maisons coloniales colorées, des bougainvilliers qui débordent des jardins. Un autre siècle. Et quand la pluie torrentielle s'abat sur la ville… les rues s'inondent. Un soir j'ai traversé la rue l'eau au genou haha !!! Vite, le soleil revient…
Nous nous sommes installés dans une Pousada. Nous avons pris un Uber jusqu'à la majestueuse plage de Trindade… une expérience qui m'a marquée à jamais, tellement cette plage est sortie d'un roman. Puis loué un bateau rien que pour nous deux… et là, une merveille. Des raies mantas, des étoiles de mer, des coquillages, des lézards, des archipels à couper le souffle.
Paraty est clairement l'un de mes endroits préférés sur terre.

Between Rio and Paraty, allow 4 hours by car. We made a stop in Angra dos Reis… two nights, not enough to visit Ilha Grande. Limited accommodation on the island and not enough time… so we stayed in Angra dos Reis. Boat trip… magnificent, but far too touristy for us. A hotel in the jungle, the glassy sea right in front… a strange feeling of abandon and well-being.
Then, Paraty… paradise.
Cobblestone streets with no cars, colourful colonial houses, bougainvilleas spilling out of gardens. Another century. And when the torrential rain hits the town… the streets flood. One evening I waded across the street knee-deep in water haha!!! Then the sun comes back just as fast…
We settled into a Pousada. We took an Uber to the majestic beach of Trindade… an experience that marked me forever, a beach that feels like it came straight out of a novel. Then hired a boat just for the two of us… and there it was, wonderful. Manta rays, starfish, shells, lizards, breathtaking archipelagos.
Paraty is clearly one of my favourite places on earth.
